    The house

    The view

    The boiler

    One of the culprits

I used to follow behind the company that did this when they were installing complete heat's. They never used the expansion tanks that came with the complete heat units. Guess where they used them? By the way this house is about 3 years old, 3500 square feet and the system has never worked. The second you walk into the garage you can hear the circulators cavitating, their is no way to flush the system, we will be installing provisions for that. The POS air scoop will be replaced with a spriovent and large expansion tank as well. I will send some after shots.

I can't see the low water cut off, that's required when not all of the piping and radiation is above the boiler.

I also see that he couldn't decide whether to put the pump(s) on the supply or the return.

The expansion tank location is 1) not at the inlet of the supply pump, 2) not at the inlet of the return pump, and 3) not at the location of the fill point. I wonder why it is where it is?

    Backflow prevention???

    Chimney?

    Clearances to combustable materials?

Fire valve on the oil line? What is that oil line made of?

All of your concerns are valid. The make up water is fed via well with no y-strainer or back-flow (house supply). No firomatic valve etc., etc. We will be addressing all of these issue's, the problems are like the car ad "too many to list". Inspector? Yeah right!

Is this pipe used for a oilburner?
And if so is that condens on the roof or a bad trace of carbon?
    The draughtcontrol looks black to.
And is the pipe high enough on the roof?

    Chimney?

I don't see ANY chimney. I see a single wall connector passing through a roof and stopping short.

On second glance, I do see a chimney, a nice one, on the right. I bet the same chimney guy didn't vent the boiler, though....

And seeing that garage door on the same level as the boiler, most inspectors want that boiler 18" above the garage floor. Even if there is an explosion proof door between them, the door can be opened.

Inspector? Good lord, I don't know how some get away with this sheet. You are correct it should be 18", then again, alot of this job obviously was pencil whipped. The nice fireplace is propane, the single wall is oil fired. Somehow I think the boiler was installed after the inspection. Its the only reasoning I can come up with as far as all the code violations.

I believe that expansion tank is for domestic water which would explain all of those fittings on the air scoop to increase it from 1/2" to 3/4".

I forgot to add that the expansion is not sized for the rate of thermal expansion created by that boiler.

Not to mention the nice scorch marks on the wall where they soldered.

Just playin'. I thought I made it clear in my original post. The tank you see is from a Lennox complete heat.

The domstic water expansion tank is to go w/ the Bronze Taco 0010 pumps in the return. And the iron 007 in the supply must be that new fangle push-me pull-ya pumping style that's getting so popular!!
