I have installed a 32" desa direct vent fireplace. I connected a digital thermostat to the unit but the fireplace never turns on. I have the 2 wires connected to the W and R on the thermostat. Can a traditional programmable thermostat which is normally used for a furnace be used on a gas fireplace?

Millivolt fireplaces don't work well with 24 volt stats. Check the owners manual or call DESA International at 1-800-458-6860.

check your local fireplace dealer, some carry digital stats that work on millivolt systems.

Consider changing to a remote control with a built in thermostatic control, this is a popular aftermarket accessory and allows for flexible location options.
