Do economisers work well in churches? need opinions

I was thinking more about how many economizer hours ( no mech'l cooling) would have occur during the church schedule to offset a $400.00 repair.

Comparing compressor repairs to Econ repairs IS a no brainier but a different kettle of fish when the OSA is above 75.... One matters while the other is meaningless.

You may have less chance to use economizers in your area.

Of course, I see one $xxx econ repair in about 10 years of use. Even so, when compared to rising electric rates, it is a cheaper repair than running those compressors all that time. We have good econ weather from Sept through April, so that's plenty of time not running and saving major kWh during that time.

A churches major load is in the cooler morning hours. When the outdoor air temp is below 55-60 when an economizer should be used. In addition to all the other great comments mentioned it will also save on compressors. Why run compressors under 55 degrees OA temp if you don’t have to? Especially in a church setting. You get people, house and stage lights, amps for a band in a space your goanna need cooling.
As for it keeping up. The space doesn’t care if the 55 deg air is conditioned or OA. Hook the economizer up, let the church use the savings in other ministries.

Ya we are in California central I don't know how many days in the summer that will be below 55 in the mornings and they are never there at night. I will encourage them to repair it. Are there any tricks into faking the enthalpy control out?

To be honest, regardless of the application (church, office building, etc.) the ability to run free cooling is a bonus. Depending on what part of the country you're in, you may see a dramatic cost savings when it comes to your energy bill. If your calling for 65 degree air and its 63 degrees outside, doesnt make much sense to run mechanical cooling. That being said, make sure you understand enthalpy controls.
