Diversifying a large corporation that is destined to die under it's own weight "IS" capitalism. A lot better to sell off the valuable portions of a dying corporation then to pump bailout money stolen from the public into that corporation just so you can pay back labor unions who supported you.

Capitalism was modeled after natural selection for one simple, powerful reason- it works. In fact, it works really, really well. If a company isn't strong enough to survive, it is eaten. Does it suck if you work for such a company? Yes. Can you get a new job? Yes.

If you put a stop to natural selection what you get is inbreeding, pestilence and the collapse of entire ecosystems. A.K.A. Communism.

I would suggest it is better than other systems, and in its pure form it isnt a system at all. On larger scale it becomes a systems and becomes something that is not pure capitalism. Pure capitalism only exists in singularity transaction. On a larger scale one would question if you can prove capitalism does work, as it is is not pure capitalism.
Capitalism itself is constrained and managed by governmental and social restrictions which both harness it and protect it. To keep the fire from becoming out of control, while keeping the flame active and from being extinguished. It is limited, formed, combined with socialist forms to become a useful tool. However that is not pure capitalism, but a hedgemony of isms. Capitalism requires a profit, as it is not based on the barter system but on a system of increasing value. Requiring growth in some form in a constrained environment. Many can and do argue the capitalism is itself a failed premise, and proven to be through its need of government and social controls. Others also argue capitalism is itself a mathematical failure leading to absolute power in its end, requiring government control so the wealth does not flow to a finality of the one at the top. how can the system operate, when the successfuly competitor gains all the wealth which strips the system ? The transfer of power eventually leads to a corrupted market, not a free market of equal competition.
Just saying, it has its issues.

When I was in Havana, one of our cabbies was a doctor. He told us that no matter what your profession was in Cuba, if you weren't working with the tourist's in some capacity for conversion pesos, you weren't going to be living a reasonable life.

Since Cuban's can't spend conversion pesos (you need to show your passport to use conversion pesos), they must pay the government banks 50% of what they earn on the black market (capitalism) to have the conversion pesos exchanged for Cuban pesos.
