I have seen people lodge small peices of pvc to keep failing hoshi's plates together. the peices were at the top and the machines were making ice. pretty shoddy, but it worked....
I was given a Scotsman ice maker, smaller unit where the plates have come loose on the EVAP. Didn't have time to get the model to post.
Has anyone ever tried to reattach the plates to the EVAP?
Yes I know just toss it but, I would like to try and see what happens. It's about a 5 yr machine.

If it's only 5 years check worth Scotsman evap may be under warranty. Otherwise I have heard of people using all kinds of chemical epoxies and jb weld none of which I would use on a ice machine that people are going to consume the ice on. I say get a new evap easy to change and on the smaller machines they aren't that pricey

Thanks guys! I just did a search and this unit was made in 05 and well out of any warranty.
Thinking I will pull the EVAP and try weld it with silver soldier, Just not to sure how stainless will take it.?
New EVAP List $1200, my cost $750
What's the model number of the machine? I'm having a difficult time imagining what exactly your situation is with separated plates on a Scotsman.
Model is SCE170A-1C
EVAP coil is approx 12" wide and 8" tall. Can't believe it over $700
A 2005 SCE170?...I'm surprised it lasted this long.
That's kinda the model I expected because those are more like a Manitowoc or Ice-O-Matic evaporator than the standard Scotsman "pillow cube" style.
The "plates" you refer to are the grid sections. When they separate from the back the evap is toast. The machine actually works better if you simply remove the loose ones.
Attempting to repair one of these is a total waste of time.
Total waste of time sure but a challenge when I need something to do to stay out of trouble. LOL
Problem is that 1/2 to 5/8 of the grid is loose. So cutting all that out will just be a chunk of ice
Can always take a 2x4 block of wood and "knock" the grid back to the plate. This usually will buy you a few days until the new evap arrives. Or just chunk it in the scrap pile with the rest of the Mani's.

I wonder how much a nickle plating shop would want ?
