I would opine that the purpose of a "company employee" at these companies it perform a service that the employee is not sufficiently trained nor experienced to do.

I followed up at a site a few days ago. The previous Co was Nextech. I was not impressed with the amount of silliness I saw.

according to you, the purpose of a "company employee" is to work like a rented mule in exchange for the smallest amount of compensation allowed by law.

do you understand whats the purpose of having a job?

My purpose is exactly the same as yours.....to make money. I open my doors each day to make money. You come to work every day to make money. What we do each day to make money, is a function of our likes and skills.

I could equally say, that according to you, the purpose of a job is to show up every day, do as little as possible, bi+ch as much as possible, and get paid as much as possible.

The purpose of getting a job is to market your skills at a level of compensation that the market determines is commensurate with those skills. This allows you to take part in our market driven economy.

The manner of keeping a job is to exceed expectations, continuing to provide the level of service that one represented when applying for the job.

My job description is as follows.
Quickly, efficiently, honestly, repair my customers problems with integrity.
When companirs ask you to lie or to put yourself in danger then I draw the line.
I only have one body and need it to last about 40 more years so i can provide for my family
We all have diffrent skill levels but employment goes both ways. You are to do your best for you employer every time you punch that clock. But your employer is responsible to maintain a safe and productive enviroment.
When i worked for cms I was put in terrible positions day in day out and thats why I left. I will go abovr and beyond for my employer but as they have high expectations of us why is it wrong for us to expect the same.

When a company like this, Source Refrigeration, in my case - tells you flat out there's no way they can compete with the UA Local package. This tells you everything, keep in mind this was in Texas of all places!

So, what is the ratio of union to non-union techs overall in the region?

    What does THAT tell you?

Union or not its about how some contactors treat there employees. Just look at how long there techs have been there if a company cant keep guys longer than a few months than the techs are.not the problem

It means that there are certain projects that normally go to the UA contractors, just like in Philly. It also means that the customer will pay a great deal more to use the UA contractor, and that pays for the higher compensation package.

If you DON'T have those customers, you can't offer that compensation.

It isn't about the ratio. I worked from JC SSA and handled a communications company's sites. JC lost this account and the communications company changed names. SR now has that account. I was a Chiller Mechanic (Union - Service HVACR Jm). SR was hiring for a Chiller Technician, same as Chiller Mechanic, except non-union.
