pretty sure anyone with half a brain can see the majority of the bs in here is from a couple screen names, which are likely the same person, just trying to make themself feel better after getting s-canned.

this is a great place to work, great pay, great beneifts, but its not for losers. if you think you can be home everyday at 3:30 sipping a cold one you got into the wrong business.

aint never had good parts replaced with new, never told to cover up another tech's mis-diagnosis, aint never had an issue taking care of family things working here either, need off for my kids stuff, im off, you just have to ask, these claims in here are a load of carp! wake up people, only a bad tech would even consider doing some of the stuff mentioned in here, no company can make you do that crap. anyone told to do shady crap at any compnay should be smart enough to go over someones head and bring it to the attention of someone that will do something about it, hello!!

sure we work some long hours, but guess what, we are service techs not gas staion clerks, what did you think this industry was about when you got in to it. quit belly-aching... you couldn't work for the best, you got canned, now you want bad mouth the people that gave you an opportunity to make more money than you could ever make anywhere else. good ridence, that just leaves more hours for the rest of us!

main reason none of us ever post in here to say anything is because we got lifes, we don't live for the internet make believe world. go outside and get some sunlight on you, its good for you.

    Al, is that you?

I don't really need to feel better about getting s-canned... I was only s-canned after I put in my notice because I had found a job that could get me 40 hours a week 52 weeks a year... Last year at this time I was getting 10-20 hours, this year I am getting 45-60... Was pretty much a no brainer. So obviously I didn't leave because I expected to be home at 3:30 every day sipping a cold one, because lets be honest I could be sipping a cold one at 10AM if I had wanted to.

As for working for the best, its almost laughable. The best in what??? The best in nation wide retail service?? Not very hard to do since there are only a couple of companies that do it. Get somewhere outside of the south and CMS is irrelevant. Far from the best. How many boilers, chillers, VFD's, racks etc. does CMS work on? I would think to be the best you would need to be a little more well rounded than rooftop units. I can say they shouldn't be working on refrigeration equipment... I remember doing a PM at a restaurant chain and one of the items on the task list was "Clean the ice machine" I had never cleaned an ice machine, called my RSM and asked him what to do and he told me all that you basically needed to do to clean an ice machine was blow out the coil... Now that I know what I know now, I shake my head at that.

And as far as "giving me the opportunity to make more money than I could ever make anywhere else." I left CMS and went to a different job, got a 2 dollar an hour raise and 40 plus hours a week with more potential for future earnings than I would have had at CMS. So, unfortunately CMS is not paying their guys more than anybody else in the trade. I won't say they dont pay their guys decent and a fair wage for what they do, but its far from the best wages in the trade.

How much can you possibly pay a Tech for Light Commercial Unitary AC work? Now consider that CMS is probably doing the work for less than the previous management company did.

    Now consider:

The additional cost of repeated visits because the tech does not know how to diagnose or fix the problem.

The additional cost of unneeded parts the tech thinks need to be replaced to fix the problem.

The additional days of discomfort without the system working properly while the company scrambles to get someone there who CAN properly diagnose and fix the problem.

All this adds up to a lower price that leads to higher costs.....

All of which is true.. So they try to make up the difference by selling parts that are not needed. PM adds on 1 year old Lennox's. You can't just perform a PM without replacing something. It's in the contract.

around here a non-union light commercial rooftop jockey makes an average of $25hr, a boiler room rat makes $25 to $30+hr with proper licenses. I rather be seating in a hot powerhouse all day taking gauges readings every so often than crawling up extensions ladders to a roof in the middle of January.

It was never represented as Safety Anything... It was more of a Bribe given by your supervisor for being a Good Boy... CMS Bucks was not actually currency. It was a Printed cupon that was "Awarded" for various reasons, that could be collected all year and used at a Christmas party to "Bid" towards Prizes in an Auction fashion...
Safety was climbing a 40' extention ladder fully extended where the last rung was level with the roof edge and nothing to tie off to because your supervisor makes you aware that no-one else has ever had an issue before now, why You???

I spoke to a Driver of a one ton Dodge Dually that was transporting Two Fully stocked and Loaded Ford E350 Vans on a Gooseneck Trailer. One of the Vans was nearly 100% over the Bed of the Dually with the other behind it, who had just traveled many miles...
I always remembered commenting "Thats a lot of weight, better you than me" to which he replied........ "Just don't Wreck"....
Later questioned about the lack of that persons name being mentioned???....... was told... "Oh, that Idiot Ran over somebody"???? Whatever that meant???
Safety was a big concern there...

Thanks for the info on this outfit.....gave me some good questions to ask potential employers. It's a shame that places like this exist. I checked out some Youtube videos by them.....comments disabled for some reason

I just ran into a guy that work for said cheeseball outfit today (we worked together at UT, the Big Blue C), he's been there for 6 years. All he was saying were good things about them. I told him, you're the only person I've ever heard talk good about said company.

I'm curious about their work load; how consistent, type of work (I think it's mostly retail?), how much OT is typical, and how much on-call time? How is the work load distributed (e-mail, phone call from foreman, etc)? An organizational info as it pertains to the tech would be appreciated. How do they treat their techs? A lot to ask, I know, but I'm treated well where I am and paid an okay wage with good benefits. Thanks for any help you can offer.
They will **** you to death. Do not seek employment with CMS Mechanical.

I just quit CMS. I had the same problems. Even made me do $1000's in needless repairs. Craig Parker is a crooked SOB.

The money was great but the way I was treated left a bad taste in my mouth. There is a huge difference in making the company money verses saving the company money. Which separates the mechanics from the parts changers IMO. It was he first time in my life that I quit a job without having another one lined up. It was a tough decision but right one. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. I now am happy doing what I love to do without being forced to be dishonest. I remember being sent to do a repair on 2 rooftop units at a box store that someone else quoted during a PM. The quoted work was leak repairs on 2 units 3 different stages. 60 lbs of R22, 3 driers and 3 LPSs. I arrive at the site and drag all of my stuff on the roof. I go to the first unit. 4 stage 25 ton Lennox RTU PKG, 3 years old. These units looked brand new. Top of the line RTUs IMO. Hook up to the first stage and run a test, all is well. Stage 2 the same. Stage 3 kicks out on low pressure. Stage 4 kicks out on high pressure. See a problem here? This guy transferred refrigerant from stage 3 to 4. REALLY! So I go to next unit and run tests on everything, could not find any problems. Now I am just frustrated at this point. So I called my supervisor and explained to him what I found. Not a good move on my part. Now I'm in the $h!t list. I was told to do the work. (Supervisor speaking) what do you want me to do. Call the company and tell them that my guys made a mistake. How do you think that would make us look. DO THE WORK. Had a hard time with that one. One of many experiences like this one. I can't be that guy. I want to help people not screw them. It's company's like this that make everyone look bad. There is a reason why most people think that AC guys are ripping people off. You want to keel your customers? DON'T FIX IT IF AIN'T BROKE. Honesty will pay off in the end.
