sight glass or moisture indictor? is the question.
I believe I read once that, on a hill rack they used to use a sight glass,but, it is NOT inline w/ the liquid line, but, instead it has 2 -1/4 " lines that attach it to the side of the liquid line.
Is it true that this style of piping the s/g it is used solely for moisture indicating only and NOT for determining liquid content.

is it a 3/8 line? thats how they did it way back,something to look at and a lot less than a saddle type.

When you start getting into the large pipe they use the "bypass" to cut down on cost. Can you imagine the price tag on a 2" moisture indicator fitting?
It is used solely for moisture indication not as a liquid indicator.UA LU189

yes you are right those hill rack have a sight glass on the liquid line that is a 1/4ins line connected to the shightglass at the side of liquid line so that a mositure indicater did not know that throught that was for liquid.

but in the newer rack they do have sightglass in the liquid line weather it 7/8 1 1/8

sightglasse's are nice to look at but subcooling is the best way to check charge.

it will indicate solid column as well
