Hussmann Door
First time I have ever seen this. The door heater shorted out in the corner and the outside pane of glass actually exploded out, sending glass everywhere. Luckily, no-one was close by at the time.

I've seen dozens of the Hussmann glass doors shatter.
NEver seen one shatter from a short, though.
Cool.

That's a new one for me too. Shocking...

It reminds me of a past thread about exploding defrost heaters:

Yes I've seen that before. If it's the inovator door, the shattering glass is just one of its many talents.

If the glass breaks first the heater has enough wattage to melt the frame. Seen this happen first hand.

What is the time frame of manufacturing of these doors that had this issue? Do they still have this issue or has been rectified? These doors seem like a safety hazard, why has there not been a recall on these doors? I could not imagine the law suit that would follow glass shards flying into a little kids face while shopping. Chances are it would never happen but bad press and this happening just once could be devastating to a retailer right?

Hussmann Innovator Doors
not sure if if the problem was that wide for a recall (like that Tyler heater recall from a few years back) i would guess that would be because no body has been hurt or made a claim like in the Tyler instance,
I know a chain who did their due diligence and paid to have all their heated doors checked, basically a service call to point infrared thermometer check all doors and unplug and replace as necessary. I'm not aware of any Factory issued recalls or bulletins.
I would take a wild guess the first pic above would be circa 2004-2006'ish, rmuntz could tell if he had the 3rd and 4th digits of the serial#!
