Just because it's dirty doesn't mean it can't be repaired. Repair the piping, take care of drier issue, etc. and install new compressor, evacuate, and so on. Not that bad a problem...at least its all accessible. I agree with giving owner a second option, and pricing, as far as a replacement may be in his future!

Looking closely, it looks like 2 liquid eyes and 2 LL driers. Maybe it is a single pipe redundant system????
If you really know how it works, you have an execellent chance of fixin' er up!

which compressor did you replace? Is that a copeland? or the tecumseh? Probally the copeland right? Was that a early 80's york cond unit? whatever it was, it is garbage that's for sure. those cond fans look super fun to change out too

This type of unit could use some mis information with it's diagnosis.
Like servicing a car, tell the customer that they are low on turn signal fluid, and their muffler bearings are completely non existant, and recommend that repairs be made
