Let me put it this way- he had the condenser moved from another property four yrs ago, used. Need I say more?

All you can do is give the customer all the options with the pro's and cons of each. It's their money and their decision no matter what you feel is the right choise.

Broke is broke. Keeping with a dead or dying refrigerant is not in the best interest of the customer. If he insists on keeping with R-22, change the cond. He should be given the option of a newer more efficient system for his own good, and yours.

As someone said, quote all options and explain benefits for each choice.
Why wouldn't you quote a compressor too? In my mind if he doesn't want to buy a whole new system, a new compressor would be a better option than another R22 outdoor unit...

Like most of you here, I prefer to inform the customer of all available options, which will include the pros and cons of each, and then let him decide which direction he wants to go.
