Heat exchangers of gas units don't hold up that well. They seem to be in the cold air supply downstream of the cooling coil. That's a huge no-no in split systems. The cold air cools the heat exchanger but the hot humid air from outside is in side the exchanger and condenses and rusts them out from inside out. Most also have shorter HE warranties than furnaces.
