Looks good!!
Hey tin,
Do you do like I do and just freehand them? I like to take a piece of metal, and just lay out some string or even a panduit strap to get my curve. It's a lot of fun to tinker around with the shapes if you don't have patterns made up.
They're actually not that hard to make even layin em out the right way. Learning is a little tricky, but once you do it a few times it becomes just like every other fitting.
Rgreg is right. After you get the knack you can lay out any symetrical offset in about 5 min or less, using a scale, a 2' square and trammel points. McMaster has nice trammels that fit on 1/2" pvc. Snips mag book dept has the Budzik layout books. Make everything from round ells, gores and change size 2 way offsets. Worth the investment. Had mine for decades.

you guys have this all wrong, its much easier to just hit a few buttons on the old computer and let the machine do the job it was paid to do. Takes minutes. Nice fitting Tinknocker.
Yeah, but sure is nice to know the geometry of how it happens.Originally posted by mtnwrench

Very nice work tinknocker, those offsets look so much better than 45's.
Have you set up a Google alert for Carbon Monoxide yet?
Click here to find out how.
Use to make ogee ofsets all the time but over the years it just seemed to be easier taking 45's and making the offset exactly what you need on site. If you have exact measurements for what your offsets are then thats fine, if your making runs back to the shop to build it when its just a one day job or its going to hold you up.....I will just use the 45's, I always have the common sizes already built.
To a tinner you really can tell the differance but to the averag individual, they would never know the differance. Use to be that wage wasnt the big thing, it was material. Now it all about labor costs as compared to material.

Yeppers, can make a prettttty big radius using a piece of pvc for the beam. That will hold a pencil or soap stone to.Originally posted by bwal2

Not many people know what a goldberg fitting is. That fitting is also in the budzik book. If I rem correctly it is a reverse elbow. I have made a few. Left, Right and center.

Refresh my memory on them reverse elbows...
On the side that isn't straight, where do you come up with your arc?
Once upon a time I knew, but it's been too long since I've layed one out that way and I forgot.
The way I do it is traverse (is that a word? lol) across and transfer my arc distances from the other side. Lays out perfect but takes a bit longer.
