I have brought home a new (I took the cardboard off it myself) recovery tank. I expected it to maybe have a vacuum on it, so it would be ready to use. Instead, it has a presurized gas in it. Don't think it is refrigerant because only vapor comes from the liquid valve. So what is it? I think maybe N2 for the sake of keeping away rust.

They come pressurized with N2. I don't think its any specific pressure, they probably just leave a little pressure in them after doing a pressure test and bleeding most of it out.

Have to evacuate it before using it.

My local reclaimer seems to have stopped evacuating the cylinders before they send them back to the supply house, so I have to evacuate all the cylinders we get, new or used.
