Re-Verber-Ray XTS Problem
I am working on a Re-Verber-Ray XTS Radiant Tube heater.
When I originally got the call, the location had 4 of 8 of theses heaters not working. 3 of them I was able to clean the intakes, blow out the section of the box with the gas valve, checked wiring, etc and they all fired right up.
The fourth one, EVERYTHING was burnt up in it. The wiring, silicon control tubing, top of the gas valve, and the ignition control module.
I rebuilt the unit, replacing everything but the blower and burner tube.
The unit ran several hours.
And it did it again.
The Baffle seems intact, Blower running fine and is clean, flue clear. What would cause this blowback? There's no such thing as normal,Just different kinds of crazy..

The room could be in a negative pressure, the flue is getting a down draft or the combustion blower motor is going bad an not moving enough air.

I ended up talking to R-V-R today, and discovered this is a common problem in this particular installation, and it is due to neg pressure. It pulls the hot air back down the flue across all the plastics and wire and tubing and turns them to goo. Intake Has to be re-piped to outside the space or changed to the new XTS3 which is re-designed to correct this problem.
So you are right.. and thank you. There's no such thing as normal,Just different kinds of crazy..
