    commercial duct smoke detectors

    Hello:
I mainly work on commercial refrigeration(I.e. Supermarkets) but I was called out on fire alarm caused by an HVAC smoke detector. I found only one of five AHs with a tripped detector on the boiler sys. Removed cover and checked filters, screen and tubes on detector, all clean. The air filters were fairly new and the blower belt is external. Any ideas on what may have caused the detector to trip?

    Thanks

Is the ductwork tied into the make up air unit. I've seen in the past AHU tied into the make up air unit and the smoke from the exhaust fan back feeds and trips the detectors.

I found smoke getting in from a kitchen exhaust two blocks away. They were smoking meat (very tasty) but a condo building was getting "campfire smells" from their makeup air system. The smoke detector on that unit had actually been removed.

Did you rule out a fire? LOL
You need to put the phone down and get back to work!

Had a no heat call on Friday. Found duct detector tripped. Caused of problem newly installed elect. reheat coil. The initial burn off caused it to trip.
