    trane rtaa slidevalve

while i have read this forum for years I have never actually talked to any of you, still thanks for all your insight. A few months ago I read a link about slidevalves on rtaa sticking, thus causing a high current overload on startup. has anyone ran into this before and if so what was the fix.

Have you checked everything? It could be a bad unload solenoid, a leaking lip seal, a leaking load solenoid, or a stuck piston. So have you verified that it is a stuck piston.

    Nique, welcom to the forum!

This subject has been talked about numerous times so I don't think a new thread needs to be started. Just search "RTAA slide valve problems" or "RTAA oil flow problems" and you'll get all the info you need.

this is probably one of the most (definitely top 10) asked questions on the commercial section...anymore, the number 1 answer is to use the search.

all right, maybe i need to spend some more time searching and maybe i'm asking this in the wrong place. I called my local trane guys (slc) and the first thing they tell me is that the slide valve is not rebuildable, so i give them the SB # and then they tell me that the rebuild kit is no longer available. the guys in slc are good guys obviosly just not familiar with this problem. so i quess what I am asking is if anyone has a part list they can send me. thanks. chhb100tka0r119ahnn

I'm gonna doubt that happens. Your kinda splitting hairs on the terminology of a slide valves repair. Plus according to this guy they say the repair kit is NLA.

The slide valve is not rebuildable in the field but that's not your problem. The piston is more than likely your problem.

This is a tossable compressor like all small screws. They are just not worth the expense to try and fool with. York DX compressors had problems as well with the slide valve, they had a rework that would work sometimes and sometimes not. Just saveyourself the headaches and get a new compressor.
Sorry I know that is not what you want to hear.

So you would change the compressor just because it has a burnt unload solenoid, or a blocked pill filter ??
Good call ,,,, are you on commission for selling parts ?

That statement is simply not true. There are many relatively inexpensive repairs that can be easily made on these compressors. The slide valve piston rebuild is a 4 hour job and the parts are minimal, $XXX.XX. A new compressor is $XX,XXX.XX.
