    What are the pitfalls of not having the same brand of A/C as the gas furnace?

    None as long as your furnance moves enough air for your a/c. It is more important that your indoor coil be matched to your outdoor unit.

    It's possible that they will work just fine as long as you note what's written above, however, you won't have any official tested ratings to compare to, if you ever have to run tests, because ratings, charging charts, etc. are based on specific system matches.

    Great until you get into high SEER and need the exact blower unit (furnace or air handler) to get the system ARI rating. Key is what Bobby said, right airflow and coil matches the outdoor unit. We did it for much of the 90s. One brand had a better 80% furnace, other had a better scroll outdoor unit.
