apparently the Trane models TCONT800,801,802 etc do not allow programming of time and temperature differentials for Stage-1 and Stage-2

I don't think anyone has that.. the stages will only come on as needed.

How would Your Comfort be enhanced
by having a Stage 2 control?

Lower your t-stat or relative humidity settings to effectively run stage 2 in cooling mode more frequently.

    climatouch t-stat has this feature:

    1. press touchscreen for 5 seconds
    2. select Y
    3. select Advanced Features
    4. scroll Next until..Stage1/Stage2 program options
    5. Enter value of minutes to run Stage1 before starting Stage2
    6. Enter temperature difference to start Stage2 vs. Stage1
    7. Select Menu to save settings
