How many companies have you worked for?

After reading all the interesting threads lately, I was wondering if you guys(and gals?) would share stories of how many companies you've worked for, and if you've finally found a place you feel you'll retire from, or if your still looking.

I feel lucky that I've only had to move on once, and that the company I'm with now could be the last of my career if things go right. I'm not really thinking of starting up on my own....I think I could be happy staying where I am and moving up.

I know of a guy who said he needs to move every 5-6 years no matter where he works, it's just how he is.

I've work for myself since 1994

I've worked for 2 other HVAC companies, each were 1 man shops and I helped them do installs and did the newbie crap.......filters, fan motors, and leak detection. Neither one of them could find a leak if their life depended on it, or they just were using me to verify the leaks that they found.

If your not the "key" guy at a large shop, well................

Still in my first HVAC company after 6 years. Don't see anything changing that unless I move to a different area.

Hey, if you're UA HVACR service, chances are you that may be let go because of lack of work. A lot of people think lazy, fat guys keep job for decades in the Union. Hey, I've a newer guy that's one of the first to go. I've been laid-off by 4 national signatories. What'd I do? I looked for another job, if the gap was more than weeks then I'd file for unemployment. I keep my H&W and my Pensions going by paying my non-working dues. I'm now working for a small Union shop & I couldn't be happier. In 12 years, I have 108K in my National Pension, none of which I put in there. What non-union HVACR service tech can say that?
