Fluke 80pk-8 replacement

My Fluke pipe clamp is starting to malfunction intermittently . it is only a matter of time before it will quit.
Beside getting a clamp and clamp a bead probe on to the copper line

is there a cheaper replacement for 80pk-8 pipe clamp probe or i have to just bite the bullet and get another one

The best alternative that I've found is the UEI ATTPC2 clamp. It has the small pipe capabilities of the Fluke for a lot less money.

After searching the same topic I have to agree. We got several with Flukes Educational discount and they lasted about 4-5 years now we have 1 working out of the six. I guess that's not bad considering students are pretty hard on electronics with cords attached.

I am considering the UEI's this time.

Can you see damage to the sensor?
It might be an easy plug or wiring fix.

Have you taken that model apart? Ours were all molded together at the cord/handle attachment and I couldn't see how to fix any part of that. I don't think the sensor end can be fixed either.

How old is it? Might still be under warranty.

I just sent my Fluke 80pk-8 in this past summer when it started acting up and Fluke sent me a new one for free. I just payed to ship the broken one in. It was under a year old though.

another option is the fieldpiece version. about 1/2 the cost, but like uei won't open as large as the fluke

I look at the ribbon sensor and could not find anything wrong with it visually.

Yet intermittently it will quit. couple smack will get it working again
maybe the cable is broke from metal fatigue .
i usually roll / coiled up the cable into the clamp

So i'll get one of those UEI .

Nope... Do you still have the failed ones?
Even if you had to smash one you'd be ahead if you could fix the others.

The UEi uses a ribbon type sensor also Cooper make them with ribbon sensors too.

Sounds like the wire broke and depending which way the wire is pulled it makes contact or pulls away.
If you can find the break you can repair it.
Probably where it goes into the handle.

I've had 4 of the fluke clamps myself, the wire will break where it comes out of the handle right under the spring. The cooper clamp works well also.

Yep. I never had one last more than a year. I finally gave up on them.

Yep, that's where ours broke loose first. The one that had the good cable had a wire disconnected from the ribbon sensor. Usually I take our electronic repairs over to the electronic program for repair but this thing wasn't worth the walk over as I couldn't see how it could be fixed.
