Thanks we will give that a try.... I will let you know if it works
Sounds like you are saying he or his installer should tighten/seal the insulation around the pipe at the compressor so that the water that is condensing on the exposed portion does not flow down the...
I stopped by the neighbors to take another look at his Ruud system.
He said they did not change the line set, it is the same one from his old 20 year old 80% furnace.
I measured the pipe under...
I will have my neighbor check that...or I will stop over and check it myself. If that is the case, I will have him enlighten his installer to make the change since the system is less than a month...
You asked me a similar question in a prior thread I started about high static pressure of my system which I was able to resolve.... The answer is the same. I am not a professional, just a home...
Thanks for responding.
When you squeeze the black insulation where it ends (just outside the coil) you can see water pour out. The unit is in a conditioned basement and the coil case does not...
My neighbor has a new Achiever Plus Series Ruud system that is leaking water at the insulated line set where it connects to the coil. I have attached a few pictures. Below are the model numbers. ...
It has been a while but I insulated the 574 sq ft attic room and I ended up running one 12" round Supply duct and one 12" round Return duct at opposite ends of the attic room. I ran a load calc...
By the way, I have not made changes to attic system yet other than correcting the furnace computer input of the condenser size.
My intent is to have the attic area "finished" at some point soon. ...
Understood...
I went on ahead and ran the temp rise for stage 1 of the 1st floor system this morning:
Results are below
1st floor furnace: Airflow=860 CFM Temp Rise = 119F-71F = 48F.
With the temperature in the low 40's this morning I was able to run the stage 2 heat for ~15 minutes and get the Temp Rise on my 1st floor furnace to make sure I had not slowed the airflow CFM's too...
Now that my 1st floor system seems to be operating much better for cooling, recall that in my 1st post, the static pressures were above 1 for the cooling as well as for 2nd stage heating.
Using...
The attached service and facts sheet suggests that I was pulling close to 700 watts at the static pressure of 1.38 to try and hold 1400 CFM.
(extrapolating out from the 0.9 listed)
Now that I am...
Well the new return is up and running...
Here are the results
Cooling Airflow 1015 CFM: neg SP = 0.28 pos SP = 0.30 Total ESP = 0.58 for first floor cooling. I do not plan on having any...
I have a whole new respect for you guys that install ducts for a living....

I had to use that orange fire stop spray to fill the large gap since I over sized the hole in the...

I used my phone camera to snap a pic inside the duct trunk.

The bottom of the trunk is really dirty I presume happened during construction. This is probally why my filters are so dirty...
Well.....for those of you with weak constitutions.....you may want to look away.
Here are some pics of a duct return addition in progress for 1st floor system to hopefully help reduce static...
I had somehow missed this suggestion earlier....but I just pulled off the filter door and removed the filter simulating like I just added a big slug of return air. The positive static pressure was...
I suspect this may be one of the reasons the manufacture provides the service and facts documents showing the units performance up to 0.9 total ESP even though the nameplate states maximum SP of 0.5...
BaldLoonie was right on from the 3rd post in this thread.
I just measured the opening and it is about 14x18 like BaldLoonie said. So yes the opening is restricted relative to the filter size of...
Attached is a pic of the 2 month old filter next to the new one I am surprised how dirty it looks next to a brand new one after only 2 months.
Here are the readings:
Attic cooling airflow...
I do have a new one.
These filters claim they can be used for up to a year and this one has been installed for only 2 months.....but for the sake of learning, it is easy enough for me to temporarily...
My 1st floor filter is the same type as the one in the attic and it gives a 0.11 drop after 2 months of usage. I think in my case the higher value in the attic filter has more to do with it being a...
Sorry I made a typo. The 1st floor filter is 20x25x4 not 20x25x5...which i have now edited and corrected
Okay...back to business.
I have run the static pressures across the coils and across the filters for both systems.
Here are the results
Attic cooling Airflow setting at 800: neg SP = 0.41,...
Close....I am a chemist (retired) and have had a ton of engineers report into me over the years...

Don't know about the professional part as I have been away from the site for over a decade. I just started posting again because I moved into a new home and I have new issues. If you want more...
Except I am not a tech......I am home owner that read all the manual and service and facts document from cover to cover.

I'm not sure why manufacturers put 0.5 total esp on the nameplate while at the same time give you a service and facts document of how the unit operates all the way up to 0.9 total esp.
My filter...
The new lower airflow settings are a huge improvement (so far). The noise level has gone down significantly at the furnace locations and I no longer hear the air being sucked through the returns.
...
After reviewing the manual and service and facts document again it clearly shows that my 1st floor furnace (80,000 btu) is designed to operate with outdoor condensing units from 2.5 ton to 4.0...
The service and facts document indicates the S9V2 furnace systems can operate across a range of CFM's from 290 to 450 CFM/ton while maintaining the set airflow across a static pressure range from 0.1...

This sticker is attached to the front of both of my coils. In the case of my 2 ton attic unit a Maximum CFM of 900 is allowed. Since I was set up at 1050 CFM here is another reason the...
That's scary.....
Sorry, I only have Total ESP readings so far.
No the systems are not zoned. I have two separate systems. The one located in the attic is for the 2nd floor and the one located in the 1st floor...
My 1st floor system had the same problem. I scrolled through the little menu and my setting for "outdoor unit tonnage" was set at the factory default of 4 tons rather than correctly being adjusted...
Dan, you are spot on to what is happening!
I spent quite a bit of time reading through the manual and the Services and Facts document. On page 97 it shows how to easily scroll through the menu to...
Yes the original filters were dirty but these SP readings are based off of the current filters which I installed after the 1st couple of months of living here.
The static pressure readings were taken at the locations in this attached diagram.

The furnace is in its own little room, the duct work trunk and extensions come out into the main attic
The Attic system is the smaller of the two.

It is a bottom filter....attached is the picture. The supply and the return go down into a 33" crawl space then flex duct off to 20 floor registers using 6" flex duct and 6 return ducts using 8"...
Both Systems are now registered with 10 year warranty. Builder indicated they had done it but when I called American Standard only the furnaces were registered I gave them the condensers and coil...
I recently purchased a brand new construction home in central New Jersey with a furnace in the attic and one in the 1st floor mechanical room. The builder's HVAC installer did not check the static...
Did they check your static pressure?
If so then post the numbers and you may get some insight to the howling noise as well as other potential issues.

Not sure if this has been mentioned...but if it were me, I'd ask them to check my ESP (external static pressure) when they are done. That info will provide you quite a bit of insight on your install...
Apparently the few days I was in New Orleans, the summer vanished in NJ. It is currently 63F out and the forseeable future has lows in the upper 40's at night and high's in the 70's during the day. ...
Good insights.
I am out of town a couple a days but will make some observations when I return...
