Have the HVAC dude come and check it. It might just be a defrost t-stat bad. Either way I would want him to check it before expensive repairs.

Odds are there was a leak in system and when your partner charged the system back up it opened the leak worse. If it leaked out, there is a leak there. How warm was it in the house?
