How old is the system? A 2 ton Ruud/Rheem a couple of years ago, should probably be sized at 5/8" and 1/4", depending on the length of the line set.

turn the thermostat fan setting to "ON" and the heat/cool setting to "OFF".

Doing this may help for a faster diagnoses.

Most manufacturers have moved in to using N-Coils due to the height necessary for an A-Coil of equivalent capacity. (especially on 4 and 5 ton)

If you have a leak in the coil it has already "gone out".

Sure, you can replace coil only, but prepare yourself for buying another coil when the condenser "goes out". It may not be a perfect match...
