The annual service on the pure-air is easy. The furnace should be serviced annually by a pro though so have him do it while he's there

OP stated he only runs the heat for ice fishing or other occasions. What good is building a room for it if the whole building will drop below freezing when not in use.

They could have failed one at a time ,once the good valve started the circulator it would feed both zones.
