I am a "one of builder" and rehab about 10 houses a year, plus maintain about 30 properties.
I have never shopped price, but I do not like paying top dollar for some one to do hack work, or for me...
20+ years building - same framer, same rocker, same plumber, same electrician, trim guys come and go BUT HVAC!! try a new one every few months.
Why are so many people going "DIY", why pay someone...
One of my houses has a Lennox HPXA12-030-230-03 exterior HP unit, that was hit by vandals (cut the coils out and destroyed the housing.
My sub said that Lennox does not have a compatable HP unit...
Forgot- after removing the insulation and scrubing bown the joist with a bleach solution, spray them with Bora-care.
The Bora-care will soak 2" into wood members and inhibit mold growth,...
Do'nt even bother thinking about your ductwork till the water problem is corrected. And I mean corrected, not covered over.
What type of soil do You have ?
what is the Topo of Your...
"I would stay away from the mom and pop companies. Some will do a great job but for the most part they are far and few."
I have had the opposite experiance, with all subs.
With a small company,...
I can tell You from what I have learned the last few days
(the 1st past was written 4 days ago)
Last few days it has been (45deg, 90%RH) at night and
65deg, 60-90%RH in daytimes.
I just finished a house with Graco Green foam insulation, I also have dual Infinity systems.
I have been in the house 6 weeks, And had the ERV finalized 4 days ago.
What type of insulation do You have ?, is it a tight home ?
I am in maryland - outside 45 deg/ 80%RH.
I am now running an ERV and inside temp of 71 deg.
Looking at the Psychrometric...
In My case I allready have an ERV (bought and paid for) hanging from the Basement joist (bad advice from contractor #1), But I am no fool, It will work great to remove indoor humidity in the...
Printed out a Psychromeric chart.
In My example: I find the original temp along the bottom, go up till it intersects the correct RH, then go horizontal till I intersect the "new" temp and this...
TB You back ?,
Just for comparison:
I have 4 humidity/temp sensors around the house.Foam house, interior temp 70 deg, night time ext temp 20-25deg.
Interior humidity 40%, no condensate.
Looking for a chart, or the mathamatic formula, to find the RH when canging temp. Example: the air is 50 deg and RH of 60%, what is the RH of the same air if warmed to 70 deg ?
Did some on line...
Contractor #1 installed 2) Carrier FE4 infinity fan coils.
The low voltage saftey of the condensate pumps are not tied in (I found out when the 2nd floor flooded last summer)
Fired #1 (no...
Not looking to "puirify" the air, just keep My coils clean as possible, so I am keeping the stock filter bay in the fan coil. The piece that came with the unit looks like it would pass...
That is one "small" filter on the "ultimate" intake.
I am not modifing the actual unit, I wanted to add an "inline" filter to the 6" round fresh air intake, between the fresh air intake...
You would think The larger HVAC supply houses would carry ?
It gets worse, I am the builder, not a HVAC sub, though I do have an account at the larger 2 Suppliers (R.E. Michal, Carrier Mid...
Looking for "quality" HRV/ERV intake/exhaust hoods.
6" with built in 1/4" screen, siding flange would be nice too.
Local supply houses are clueless, cant locate online either,
April Aire ERV:
The internal filters "in" the april aire ERV are a simple "wire mesh" style.
Thinking about transitioning the 6" fresh air to a 16" filter box then back to 6" between the fresh...
I know this has been beat to death on here, BUT.
Climate = Maryland (mixed humid)
House = 2 story cape, open great room, SPRAY INPLACE FOAM
Dual Infinity heat pumps.
This house is getting a...
Are return Air grill filter boxs worth the cost, to help keep the ducts clean, or would they create more of a neg. presure in the return duct.
Can anyone recomend a good return grill box...
how are You ducting the your HRV's ?
If both the fresh air and stale air is plumbed into the main trunk (of the Air handler), then yes the air handler's fan must run for the HRV to...
The heat pump's ductwork is in the attic - taped, and insulated (no large leaks). The HRV/ERV setup is one of dedicated return in common area (this 6" rigid return is run in conditioned space only) ,...
Heres another thought on the ERV/HRV debate.
On the manufactures climate maps (that show where ERV or HRV's should be used, by climate). HRV's are for way up north, but ERV's are recomended for most...
I am thinking of going with a HRV instead, for winter time use only....
And You just know a JennAir is going in this house :)
The AprilAire ERV is a continous run type unit, with dampers to adjust for neutral pressure.
Could I adjust the dampers to run out of...
Still trying to finish off this house.
(2 Bryant infinnity systems, and 1 april air ERV up stairs)
I am adding an Ultra-Aire Dehumid to the basement/1st floor system. can't find ANY...
Building a Foam insulated house (very tight), so indoor air quality is a concern. The Foam insulator insist on a ventilator (HRV, ERV)
The concern is a build up of humidity in the winter when the...
The house has poured concrete walls (8")
The gutters are not on yet, so all the roof water dumps down the out side of the basement walls. very high clay soil, the exterior footer drains daylight,...
The house is under construction still (dry wall is going up.) This house is sealed up tight, (spray in place foam insulation)
The house has 2 systems - 1 for the basement and 1st floor,...
Ended up going with dual Brynt evolution systems, and an April-Aire ERV on the up stairs system.
I want to add an Ultra air dehumidifier in the basement,
