The XL15i heat pump I just had installed has a slight clatter.

And it is huge - far larger than the old York it replaced, so be aware if the outside unit is near a window.

    Thanks for all the replies!

It was set on the highest speed (factory default) - no wonder I was getting no heat off the heat pump (temp dropped low enough to test the heat)

    It's about the same...

Why is my new furnace so LOUD?

When my new Trane XT80 was installed, because of the size of the new coil, they had to convert to side-return (my old furnace sat on a box and return air flowed up from the bottom)

    The return from...

I grabbed a yardstick, and it is 50" tall, spec for the 3-ton XL15i.

    The 3-ton XL16i is 46" tall, per Trane's website.

    The XL20i is 54" tall!

Somebody at Trane needs a little bit better quality control.

At least when placing the plastic medallion at the top, which says Trane XL16i.

But the model number is the XL15i.

    And I'd just...

So instead of a Trane XL15i

a XL16i heat pump showed up today instead (XT80 gas furnace is backup)

Do I stop the installers and demand a XL15i?
  7. New furnace needs more air - pull from outside or inside?

Code changes require that my new gas furnace (backup for a new heat pump) requires more air than it currently can get in its closed, small interior room.

I can either have the installers:

  9. Looking @ time of use - q on "per KW" charge

Considering switching from regular service (8 cents/kWh) to my utility's "time of use" schedule.

    I'd pay an extra $5/month on the facility charge, 5.2 cents/kWh "on-peak" (1pm-7pm, M-F), 4.6...

Why not a dual-fuel system (heat pump instead of just A/C)?

I'm having the Trane XL15i installed next week, with the basic XT80 furnace.

I bet you're paying a significant premium for the XV...

2-story, no zoning, 2500 sqft, 3 ton existing unit.
