I was told by a Trane Rep that you must use the TCONT900A for an XL20i system to qualify for the warranty. Surely there is a way around it if it's even true.

with an XL20i unit. I thought I could use the TCONT900A Trane Communicating TSTAT but the wiring doesn't seem to match...

Get new plenums, and ask about your heat load. I would go with the Trane XL16i or the XL20i.. Just my two cents.

The tune-up sounds wise and it could be that your tstat is not set up correctly. I see it all the time with heat pumps.

I would suggest the Amana equipment. Great warranty, good equipment, nice tax rebate.. If you have any problems with the Amana equipment they will replace it versus replacing parts only. I assume...
