I'll have to ponder that a bit.
Normally, evaporator free liquid refrigerant would have the opposite effect (higher suction pressure on start ).

I was about to suggest a "lazy" txv till I saw this.

If you're not a ref guy I take it that all your experience is in AC? ... Or not?
You should be able to get this somewhat oddball makeup system to work (its worked for 5 years).
Thanks for that tip, Ummscott.

A moot question as a R134A system will work just great with R12.
Not so, GA tech.
He obviously has had Salvation explained to him by his brother & SIL (note the irritation with them).

I just hope that you're not betting your eternity on it.
It gets expensive trying to cool the entire town!
Your cooled, dehumified air is escaping. out that 18 sq ft hole.
Primmers, is there an accumulator on the unit?
Are you getting noise/vibration to point you to a washout, or is it a guess?
From experience, I would be just as suspicious of a hung-up...
I would suggest that you clamp off the heater hose before condemming the AC.
The blended-air system may be adding heat.
Thanks for the link to the mini inverter compressor.
I found the input (100w) power req'd and with the COP of 3.05 does work out to 1040btu/hr.

ZhuoHan, how's the project going?
A capillary system takes time to pull down to acceptable SH.

If not, it loses much of...
Why not just use R404?
May not even need to swap txv element to C charge.
It is a CCOT system-(cycling clutch).
Adding additional ref to a CCOT system is the same as overfilling a capillary system to get the SH down.
A quick test is to switch blower speed to hi....
A 1/4" txv for a small ice machine and another sd052 drier did the trick.
If the txv wasn't laying around, I may have used an axv.
Now I know what the Tower of Babel was like.
UmmmScott, this is not a nightmare, it's real, or should I say True.
We just went thru the exact scenario, even swapped 052 drier twice.
Only after changing to txv 6 months ago, does it...

I've seen a klixon on the discharge, but it just opened the control ckt.
I recall the center dome well well.
Well, I guess that I've been counter productive for 40 years.
Tried one tank of nitrogen-it lasted minutes.
Icemeister, I'm searching for a ZF scroll-equipped condensing unit schematic.

Umscott should question mgrs re previous repairs to this system.
Remember, post #7 said it was working as cooler and freezer for years.
This discounts factory error.

Er, Mike19... without a location I get little from this.
But I'm guessing Goose bay, Labrador.
Am I right?
With the reservoirs I've seen, an inch drop would be under a gallon.
That could easily be evaporation of the water portion of whatever heat exchange liquid is used.
If not, 15 to 40 gal should...

Here's hoping fellow HVAC'ers south of the 49th have a great 4th of July.
Also hoping Captain C's beer cans are suction line cold!
Yes, way, way south on the bald prairie.
