Those two knobs are drain taps for if your air handler was mounted vertically instead of horizontally.

Some companies don't hook up their gauges unless there appears to be something wrong. Especially if your unit is R-22.

I like commercial because I can climb inside some of the equipment. In residential I have to to stand out side of it and guess.

I would see if there's a rental company close by that could rent you a stair climbing dolly.
