I like to wrap valve with thin strips of dry...
I like to wrap valve with thin strips of dry paper towels. THEN wet with spray bottle. This causes the towel to cling to the valve. Reapply water as needed. :)

It's not gonna hurt anything. I use my AK900 for 22, 410a, 404a, 134a, 409, 407c. I purge hoses before each use. I also keep a small amount of pressure in them while they are in storage.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Yes it's better to purge and pull microns down to below 500. Unless it was stated verbally or in written prior to work done, just hold them accountable to warranty.
