I usualy check the bearings and that little white temperature indicator on the side of the motor with all the numbers on it like hp,mod,volts...if it's turned brown from heat or the megger shows that...

That's the hot gas line coming off the compressor, and yes they do get hot up there.

I probably would have checked the fan mtr pretty close and replaced it and the capacitor on the first call. Would have saved having a P.O.d customer.

Sounds like the return needs a metal ell and the supply boots need to be 45* or have metal ells on them.

All seams/joints need to be sealed with mastic.
