leaving filter at furnace
and removing filter from filter grill.
that is what I'd do.
dig access under the house, and the route
that would be used for getting to the unit.
why hvac companies/builders/homeowners want
equipment & ducts in such tight spaces...
brand isn't as important as install.
moving furnace/air handler unit into the house will
get it out of crawlspace.
where are ducts? getting them out of crawlspace is
a good idea. put them in...
one would be that you dump the air into the return of downstairs.

true, but you don't heat & cool a foam sealed attic.
once you move the air & thermal barriers from the attic
floor to the roofline, the attic becomes semi conditioned.

I did a fredrich install not too long ago.
it went smoothly, aside from the double brick

when you replace parts of your heating/cooling system
they either are certified matched components..that achieve

when components don't match..your minimum...

I've been looking at it myself.
heat pump works well for me, and switching from
propane has also been a good choice.
yours is a much colder, for much longer climate.
while hp will provide decent heat for temps above
such a great post OP!
in the 15 years I've been preaching about fixing the house,
instead of putting bigger hvac systems...
it is great to see that people are learning that it does makes sense....
now its time to fix the real issue...which wasn't
sizing of hvac, although you do have some issue there
with duct install.
pics would be nice, btw.
here is southface's air sealing pdf...seal...
had to go back & look...Texas.
I agree that your money is better spent in improving the
personally I'd take out excess duct to make straight tight runs

seldom do I search for multiple threads by same poster.
just makes it so much easier & more sense
to keep all posts to the same thread...

(and know the story...)
I wasn't impressed with orkin using asphalt in a caulking tube
to 'seal' gap between copper gutter & slate roof.
or that the lead guy on the crew told me they took out
