I want to try out stonefly's method. I haven't done that before but I'm open minded to abandon good ideas for better ones if that's the case.
"crosshatch an "X" on the suction line, deep...
Turn in your gauge set, your a disgrace to the cause.
hummm, you are not using the words of the initiated. One must speak of super heat, sub cool, evap saturation temp, cond saturation temp,... to get answers to refrigerant cycle questions round here.

If you just had a 14 SEER installed yesterday by 70% of the licensed contactors in Maryland there is a good chance that it is operating at 10SEER because they are the same people that installed the...

I'm a HO
I get dangerous where I get bored.
I would do it.
The slight risk from my point of view is that if the valve is oversized it may "hunt" or over cycle, but 1.5T CU and a 2T AHU w/ 2T TVX should work just fine. They only come in...
Here, Here on the low volt. If your guys lack electrical knowledge than let a real tech close up and let him charge it too. Anybody that can't close up the control wiring probably shouldn't close out...
Spolan makes the valves, very good ones, then I decide the application , then test out the system by cycling it though a range of heat...
I do like your idea. I'll try that.

Recover R22 to clean bottle or pump down, R&R coil, clean, vac to 300 mics, close up with N2 back shielding, recharge per metering device proper (so that it's right for the first time), clean blower...

Is that Psychrometric Norm?

low pressure guy has a point if your ambitious, just be very careful not to stroke the face of that coil across the fins an fold them down.
low pressure guy, do you own Dywer Instruments?

"I had a tech come out the other day but said he wouldn't touch the system to service it, only replace it entirely."
This is what I call a "clip board tech". He owns $20 in HVAC tools to...
Said it looked and felt like a flannel jacket!
Like this one? pulled off the return side of a cased coil. LOL
$10 if you can guess the static pressure drop accross this mess.
a) The location of the leak was established
b) I assume the "Gauges indicated a vacuum" when the perfectly operational compressor pull said vacuum due to lack of refrigerant
c)Where did he "rack up...
That's ok, a lot of 20 year veterans, lead service managers, and state license holders don't do low voltage real well either.
or he can call your mama
