I am guessing the jack was put on at the new construction phase, or new roof phase, the bottom flashing is completely covered, or it's not there. Usually part of the flashing goes under the shingles...

  8. Replace coil or replace entire reliable 15 yr Lennox system?

Your system is 15 years old, you don't want to go to any high dollar coil change. Reason, when the condenser bites the dust, when someone comes out to price a new system for you, they "most likely"...
  9. Replace coil or replace entire reliable 15 yr Lennox system?

They should be able to recover the refrigerant, this is what a recovery machine is for. If it not low on charge now, I would say "just guessing" you would probably need less than a lb.

You can just replace the coil, but most home inspectors "when you go to sell" will recognize the coil has been replaced, because it will look new and the coil has date on it. If you really want to...

You know what I would do, I would call them back, and and tell them you found a company that can get the refrigerant my a/c uses, thanks for the offer, but I don't need your sales person to come out....
