Thanks for the advice. I do have a very good understanding of electronics and circuits, just not thermostats. I just want to make sure my understanding of thermostats is sufficient.

    The stat I'm...

Thanks! When you say they use conventional wiring and micro-relays. Do you mean in the thermostat? How I've understood (which could be very wrong!) was that the low voltage wires (24VAC) are going...

    Thermostat Test Circuit

    Hi All,

I am building a circuit to test a thermostat (completely disconnected from any other HVAC equipment). I've done work around my house, but I am not an HVAC professional. I'm a computer...

    Interesting

Interesting, I hadn't thought of that.

If that happens though, wouldn't no water come out at the drain end? I definitely see water coming out... but it's a trickle. Even when I pour in a gallon,...

    Trap?

There is definitely a trap, but I think it's supposed to be there. Do you mean you think there could be a second trap somewhere?

I will certainly try hot water... I've been using cold. Hot makes...

I considered running a new PVC line, but running it from the attic and down two floors, I am concerned it's not a straight shot. If there are turns I'll be cutting into drywall, etc... seems like...
  8. Thanks!

Yep.. I agree. How do the secondary drains ever NOT create an air leak? I agree that a trap isn't good there because of the lack of water (as you said). Is the answer that no one attaches the...

    Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. It would be very hard to get a hose up there so I'm hoping for another option... but unfortunately, don't know what that would be.

    Thanks for your help!

  10. Secondary Condensate run - trap or no?

I have an attic air handler, and want to attach the secondary drain line (emergency one). Right now there is a secondary pan, but I'd prefer to just let it drain out the soffit in an emergency.

    Clearing Slow Condensate Line

I have a slow (but running) condensate line. I've sucked it out with a shop-vac, and had an A/C tech blow it out. However, each time it works for about a month, then completely stops up.

    I'm...

    Model

I believe it's a Puron FV4B. I have that manual, but it doesn't seem to say anything about weep holes there. It's installed horizontally. I think caulking the holes make sense.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Voltage reading between R and Y

    Hi All,

My compressor won't start after some other problems. The voltage between R and G is 24V and the fan does come on. The voltage between R-Y is only 11V though, and the compressor won't...

Thanks guys... The coil is clean (just cleaned it) and everything looks okay... I also ran some water into the drop pan, and most of it came out the condensate pipe, but some still came out the weep...

    HVAC Hole between condensate ports

    Hi,

I have an HVAC system in the attic that is leaking water into the secondary drain pan. What I see is that the condensate line is not clogged, but there are small holes (seemingly created by...
