I don't like that they want the charge checked each time either from my experience its normally electrical not charge and if the unit is installed correctly i don't think we need to check the charge....

if you have to ask if its dyi that means its not so call your contractor if the noise concerns you.
Actually I don't mind working on them now that i have been to a class on them and have a zip drive full of all the info needed to work on them.

for the zoning if you go with a zoning system on the a/c unit and set it up the same way as the heat you can use one t-stat per zone as long as the t-stat has seperate r terminals for heat and cool
