I wouldn't setback more than about 5 degrees. IMO your wasting alot of energy to try to recover when the system could have maintained at a lower setback, and the system is going to run hours upon...
how long has the coil and condensing unit been open to the atmosphere?
maybe they are worried about condensation, or any thing else that could have got it there.

Did you get info/references from the contractors?
In my opinion the installation means more than the brand...
Cant really answer the question cause I have never installed Maytag.
So you ran the unit last season correct?
The noise you are describing would be hard to diagnose without being there...
What is the humidity in your home? It will take an A/c system a while to...

Good service techs are not biased as to brand....Let me rephrase that...
Good service techs shouldn't be biased as to brand. They should just want to do their job and service the customer.
Guessing at tonnage is not a good idea. I always have an idea in my mind what the btu and tonnage is before I do my load calc. And sometimes i am way off.
I dont know how other company's work...
I would like to try to help you out but, sounds like D.I.Y.
Like been there said....best to call your local HVAC contractor.

When you guys say large coils do you mean height?
I have never put in goodman equipment. Do they size their cased coils to your furnace?

I dont know exactly where you are located....we get 75% of our wood from the log mills around here. Its all slab, but all hardwoods too. Pay 20$ for a heaping truckload stacked....We used about 12...
never heard of anyone blocking a coils airflow to make it a 5 ton system. You sure it wasn't insulation from the inside of the cased coil?
Or insulation from the furnace somehow?

yes. 3.5 Tons would be way high for 1000sq ft addition.
I am an installer mainly and therefore dont know a whole lot about the rebates. I do know here locally Trane is offering a rebate...

I would put in a second split system to cover your new addition.
Although, a properly installed single system with properly designed and setup zoning and ductwork, will work.
Yeah I just realized that I messed up....lol
I could see a homeowner setting a rock on top that trash can lid and forgetting about it......:o
