Definitely use 18" return. I would use a low restriction R/A grille. Stay away from stamp face grilles. The size of your grille may vary but you want need to move at least 1200 cfm.

I pull to 250 and hold below 500. A tight system will have no problem pulling this low and holding. The only time to use a suction drier is if a problem presents itself for clean-up purposes.
