I install start kits regardless, but I'd like to be more scientific about it. It can be difficult to track down specs on 24 year old equipment that pre-dates internet usage by manufacturers.

Most of the systems I see in AZ are builder installed. I call them "contractor specials" because they have no start cap, no pressure limit switches, no delay-on-break timer, no fan run detection,...
My only reason for searching out this thread is to figure out how much start capacitor is needed for different tonnage units. The KickStart brand has a TO5 for up to 5hp. Their KS-1 is for...
Start on page 20-21 and pay particular attention to part number 19 (needle bearings). http://www.bakedeco.com/ebay/pdf/HobartD300.pdf
I feel your pain. Here's a suggestion, make it a challenge by timing yourself and increasing the items you check. Walk in with just the tools you know are required and click your stopwatch (on your...

I was researching R-407C and noticed this on EPA.GOV...
"Alternatives to R-22 in Residential Air Conditioning
As R-22 is gradually phased out, non-ozone-depleting alternative refrigerants are...
You are absolutely correct. And the EPA web site specifically states:
"Although EPA does not recognize any refrigerants as being "drop-in" substitutes, in general usage of the term means that...
There are issues everywhere. I've seen plumbing solder on high side R-22 lines, condensers set within a foot of the house and a foot of a block fence (3-foot recommended clearance on the label),...
I find this on the EPA.GOV at http://www.epa.gov/ozone/snap/refrigerants/refblend.html
But these are not listed as DROP-IN... is there such a list?
I'm quite interested to know what drop in exists, because I've seen only R-22a for sale as a replacement. From what I can find, and I don't trust everything on the internet, R-22a is R-290...
Did he look like my avatar?
Just curious, did the contractor provide that dirt mound because that was the expected final grade?
I've got a mechanic friend who swears that GM has got plastic that will start failing (guaranteed failing) at 6 months past the warranty. He says it is not just the painted bumpers, but the door...
That's the spirit... show us your worst, but don't keep doing that $#!T
Here's the thread I should have read FIRST... but I was not a member then...

The chemical bond from this stuff is incredible, but the instructions are weird. You must use COARSE 60 GRIT sandpaper (provided) to rough the pipe, and do not wipe off the sanding dust. Then when...
I probably should have provided that information. I used it on 1) my house, 2) my friend at work (this photo), and 3) Brother-In-Law's house. All three knew they were Guinea pigs except that my BIL...
I really like it. But you did invite critiques? So I'll just mention that I'm fond of making the exit from the wall a 135 bend followed with a 45 back to hug the wall and allow strapping. I think...
I've used it 3 times total, including the failure. The first two times within a month of acquiring the bottle. I have a photo from 3/27/2010 showing the bottle... even though the purpose of the...
My bad, the "flaring" tool is also a "swaging" tool and I was swaging, not flaring.
Used for fitting tubing of the same size together. Pretty handy for this and I can't really think why you would ask unless there's some other usage I'm not aware of yet.
Thanks grkmano for the confirmation that I'm not the only one to ever try this stuff. BTW I tried it because Johnstone Supply gave me a bottle at their open house party. If some of you may have...
How old are you? I've been doing HVAC repairs for 35 years.
This stuff, and I've used it with fantastic results on several units that I installed (compressors) in 2009. The problem was with using it in 2010 when it had been in my truck tool bag for about 8...
I'm in Arizona USA, and I have traveled to eastern Europe a few times with friends who have relatives there (BiH).
Ok, so I did this... why? I was replacing B-I-L's compressor in Tucson and thought to myself that I should not heat the check valve on the exit port of the Copeland scroll compressor using my swirl...
Actually I was just trying to be humorous. I work with a lot of folks from your country, mostly software contractors. Once I was in Chicago and I got an instant message on my laptop from Srinivas...
Mr. Manjeet Singh, If you are in Bangalore anytime soon please say HELLO to my good friend SRINIVAS PATEL... I'm sure you know him. Ben
I heard yesterday that the big increase is coming on Monday due to supplies running out... and that's interesting because the JohnstoneSupply.com web page lists the origin of R22 as CHINA. I suspect...
I just bought a new compressor to put into my 1997 Bryant heat pump next week. I know it is only 10 SEER but I have 7-10 mWh surplus electricity per year and find it difficult to spend bucks on a...
How I really got started??? Well in HS the guidance counselor rejected my sign-up for small engine repair, saying that since I would go to college I could not be in there... it was a course for guys...
