Either boiler would be fine, but the install is more important than the manufacturer. Youre buddy likes his System 200. Who did the installation?, call and get a price for the contractor. Who...
Pressure relief valves must be mounted in a vertical plane. Temperature/pressure relief valves (water heaters) may be mounted in a horizontal plane.
References are always a good sign. Insurance? Did either one do a heat loss or gain? Matching existing equipment to new equipment not always the best. Who says the original installer was right? 10...
The Williamson is made by Weil McLain. The envelope containing all the burner and boiler specs that comes with the Williamson says Weil McLain on it but they are not exact boilers. Weil Mclain now...
That's a very broad question. Is their something more specific you are having problems with?
If your furnce is large enough to heat the house but your bedroom is cold the system probably needs to be balanced. Install dampers in the branch ducts to cut back air flow and force into bedroom.
May want to add a monoflow tee to the supply to increase flow thru the branch circuit. Water will take path of least resistance and that sounds like what is happening. Also need to check size of pump...
I think all your assumptions are backwards. Sheetmetal is better and duct board is cheaper.
It is my opion that baseboard heat is alot more comfortable than warm air. With that said if this was my second home at the beach I would seriously consider warm air. I would get prices for each and...
Just a thought. I once went on a service call with the same symptoms as yours. I found that the furnace was never converted from natural gas to propane. Most gas heating systems in my area come thru...
I wish I had that rate!! After all the fee's I'm paying about 1.70 per therm!!
What about the Crown Freeport. It is a very nice 3 pass boiler and is made in America. Matches very nicely with the Crown Megastor. I live in the Hartford area and service most of Hartford County if...
I believe the tax credit is for boilers and furnaces with an AFUE of at least 95%. Good luck trying to find a boiler manufacturer with that AFUE rating. I don't believe their is one. I think the...
7,000 sg ft house and appears you want to nickle/dime the hvac. It happens alot and I never understand it. Talk to your GC, get some recomendations, interview some HVAC contractors. It's not just...
If you wanted to drive to CT I could give you a couple boilers. You would just need to pull them out of the basements.
Personnaly I would keep the boiler with the fin tube baseboard. It is alot more comfortable than any warm air system.
"Replacing the pipe is not an option due to the high cost."
If so why do you...
Did you forget to take the rubber plug out of the lines set before making connections. I have seen this before.
non-condensables
The Boderus is a great boiler, you have chosen well. I personally would spend a little extra and get the Riello. The Riello tends to give you slightly higher AFUE readings and the cover will help...
If the furnace is in an open basement you will need 50 cu ft of open space per 1,000 btu of input. In your case 191,00 btu of input would require a 30 x 40 x 8 ft basement.
Equipment warranty is limited to the original purchasers or the equipment. If you sell your house the equipment is no longer under warranty. Manufactures count on the fact that most people move a lot.
If you are going to install a high efficiancy boiler it would be foolish to keep the gas water heater. Buy an indirect heater to match the boiler. You will save on fuel and not have the problem...
Why not use the chimney as a chase. The pvc pipe can be installed in your existing chimney. This will alleviate all those concerns you posted.
The return is also undersized and should be fixed. A 3 ton unit would need about a 16" round return. That 14x8 must be noisey.
Pex lines up a wall to 2nd floor are not "DROOPY". I disagree about reduced flow rates. The inside diameter of 3/4 pex and copper is the same. Without all the copper 90's and 45's the flow rate will...
Sounds to me like your on the right track for sizing purposes. I like the idea of 3.5 ton coil with existing 3 ton condenor. The 14x8 supply is way to small and sounds like his #1 problem. 26x8...
At a minimum insulate the pipes in the attic. Whether its pex, copper or steel the water in the pipe can still freeze. The advantage of using pex is if it does freeze the pipe will probably not burst...

What is the best method when sizing an oil fired hot water boiler? Is it best to go by the DOE rating or the IBR rating? In the past I have always used the IBR rating but I have read differnet...
Disagree - Even if every room had its own return they would still have problems if the T-Stat is in an unconditioned area. Move the T-Stat into the master bedroom.
I live in CT. and I am a licensed contractor. Send me an E-mail, I would be happy to explore options.
