Thread moved to the AOP forum. This is the only forum for homeowners.
Prestige IAQ needs an add on for WiFi. It works well.
You might want to use a remote sensor to avoid damage to the t’stat. Just mount it in a separate room.
That’s beautiful metal work. Did you measure SP after startups?
Foxy, out of curiosity, how did you learn about hvac-talk?
Dang, I need a cool nickname.
Hey Foxy! Welcome aboard. :putergreet:
That should have been addressed a long time ago. Time for a full duct replacement.
I don’t see that a blower door test was performed. I don’t see how your tests could be valid with just thermal imaging.
Asbestos lined ducts?! I don’t believe I’ve ever seen such a thing.
Your...
I don’t see many Fujitsu units in my area, so I’m only guessing that VDD has to do with Variable Direct Drive.
When was you unit last serviced by a pro? I think you’ll benefit from a visit by...
Pay attention to the air sealing before insulating. Insulation is NOT an air barrier. Air movement from attic spaces will keep the addition from being comfortable.
Have you considered a heat pump water heater?
Not enough info to even guess.
The brand is the last consideration. The installation makes or breaks the result.
Proper sizing is absolutely critical.
Are there any comfort issues you’re trying...
The heat pump is what contains the compressor, so that means it IS the outdoor unit. The indoor units may be referred to as heads or just indoor units.
Sometimes people incorrectly call the outdoor...

Few dehum units last 10 years. The units are considered disposable.
IMO, every unit should be a heat pump. Heat pumps are superior to furnaces when ODT is above 40° and often well below that.
The only difference is a reversing valve and a defrost board. Why go 90%...
I just looked up your location. You must get some storms out there.
My family lived in Hamden, CT close to 60 years ago. I don't remember any storms of that severity back then.
I have seen many units either on the roof or placed on a couple of pieces of treated lumber. I've not known of any that moved.
As others have pointed out, check with the AHJ so you don't have to go...
Hi Joe. Thanks for contributing. We welcome input from manufacturers, as a rep or just a guy in the trades. I hope you'll chime in from time to time.

You commented on Victor Wooten with Cory Wong.
Though he was not in Bela’s band for several years, we saw Howard Levy a couple of years ago in Columbus, OH. We were with another couple and the...

Beautiful work. Well done.
Furnaces don’t “rest”. It should run until the thermostat is satisfied. It is probably shutting off because of a safety. Your description sounds like the behavior of oversized equipment and...
UV is worthless in the air stream. It needs proximity and residence time to work.
Filters don’t remove smoke. Ventilation is what removes smoke, unless it is bringing in smoke.
Has a load...
I stand by the statement.
He understood that the low pressure switch would shut down the unit. I tried to get him to think through the effect of each step in the repair process to learn for himself.
It’s a given that it will short cycle. Poor dehum is also a given. Shortened life is a given.
If none of those are a concern, then by all means, proceed.
Are you going to keep us in suspense?
Explain please.
I cannot think of any zone panel that would close all zone dampers. That is contrary to the usual operation. It would normally operate by closing non-calling zones during a call by other zones.
It’s just physics that one level is below grade and cold so they need heat, but the upper level is exposed to the sun and needs cooling. The basement has no heat gain and is surrounded by earth at...
That’s NOT how to test for CO from the furnace. His test was worthless. Look for a tech who has been trained in combustion analysis.
Then you’ll chill the tenant even more. Thats why the systems should NOT be connected.
This wins the prize for one of the most vague questions posted.
OP, you’ve got it backwards, the system changes the air temperature which then affects the thermal mass.
Thermal mass factors into the problems with t’stat setbacks and MRT. Just don’t change the settings.
Don’t take control away from the tenant. Small heat pump for the basement, perhaps a small ductless, so it is independent of the rest of the house.
If only one system for floors 1&2, make sure the...
Idea 2 won’t please anybody.
Idea 1 will be a disaster AND won’t please anybody.
Idea 3 will be okay for the basement but floors 1 and 2 will not be the same temperature as each other.
The right...
Cold climate heat pumps work below 0*. Mine maintains 72 inside down to 10*.
I found that AdBlocker was turned off on Chrome. I turned it back on and the ads do not pop up when I'm on the computer. My IOS devices are different story. They have ads.
Please don't post prices. Site rules do not allow them.
Re. dehumidifier, you could buy a couple of individual units and see if that solves the problem before investing in a dedicated, ducted...
It's like reading braille. :grin2:
Are you setting it for 68° or is that just an example?
Condensation is all about the dew point. Cold surface meets moisture laden air. Either change the temperatures or change the exposure.
Hot, greasy air in a flexible duct. Just picture how it will look inside after a couple of uses.
Then tell the contractors they must follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.
BTW, the Bose noise cancelling headset is awesome. I heard more detail listening to music with them while mowing the lawn than I did when listening to the stereo in the house.
Years ago I worked for a company that covered a lot of territory so I listened to many recorded books. Here are some of my favorites.
Hunt for Red October is a great audio book. Fiction of course....
Insulation is not an air barrier. Hence, the moisture in the air comes in contact with the cold metal an it condenses. The ventilated attic provides a constantly replenished source of moisture.
The...
This IS asking for technical advice. This is what we cannot provide. There are DIY sites out there. Perhaps you can get advice from one of those.
We would prefer that you do not revive a thread that has been dormant for 8 years.
This is not a DIY site so we cannot assist with diagnosis or repair of your furnace.
A furnace of that type is not a difficult one to diagnose for a competent technician. It is regretable that...
YOU don’t need better information. The diagnosis is not up to you.
THE TECH is supposed to be able to identify the the problem, not just replace parts.
Oversizing the system aside, thoughts on humidity control?
