Also, should I leave the card board in permanently, or just I until things dry up? If I must remove how can I prevent this mishap from happening again?

o.k now I'm with you. I have two returns. One in front and one to the back of the house in the ceiling. Should I place cardboard in both, and also in front or behind the filter or does it matter? ...
I'm completely green to this so educate me please. Is the return filter the main ac filter or is it on the ceiling where the duct connects to?

I am really clueless to this info but the tubing looks similar to aluminum foil but is extremely large about the diameter of a basketball goal. As for the vent idk.
