They probably spent more time hacking in the heil than if they had used a curb adapter with the proper unit. At least they used a trap. :D

I'm glad we don't have oil around here. In the last two years I only saw two oil furnaces......Both of which we replaced.....One conversion to a heat pump and the other to nat. gas. :)

You're probably right. I have seen Carrier, Bryant, LG, White-Westinghouse to name a few for sale in shopping malls and stores open to the public for anyone purchase and install.

Sloppy linesets are nothing unusual. It's considered "the norm" to purchase a lineset longer than needed and simply leave the unused portion rolled up next to the condensing unit. I guess they are...

You got that right. There's an apartment complex here in town that added Ruud heat pumps in 1985 when they tore out the old floor furnaces. More than half of the original units are still chugging...

Sorry, I can't help but ask; how in the HELL can you survive in an 88 degree house in the winter? The warmest I have ever seen someone keep their house is 78 degrees, even then, I was sweating.

It appears to be a duct furnace. I have seen one installed down stream of a 20 ton carrier air handler.
