I have a 2 stage variable speed furnace which I really like. However, because I only have a 1 stage heat pump, the heat pump indoor blower speed is ALWAYS fast (same for AC).
I really enjoy the...
That is an excellent suggestion. That gives them the flexibility to add heatpump (ac capability built in) with energy savings later.
I'm surprised your contractors are...
I am very satisfied with my XL14i heat pump. However, my only annoyance is with the IRS rules to claiming the $300 tax credit.
My unit (per http://www.aridirectory.org is rated at 15...
If you get a Goodman 90 afue furnace you may find that your total monthly cost (after utility savings) is very minimal.
My xv80.... username is a TRANE furnace model. I am in no...
Glad to hear that Trane provided factory support to help solve your DSS problem. I had read your original post "Dirty Sock Syndrome Lie".
I had read many hvac-talk threads about...
From a homeowner who has been on this site for about 1 1/2 years - WELCOME.
Don't worry about the software glitch that must have originally posted your question in another section. ...
do you give your customers "ultimate" or "more than sufficient" service?
Of course, many customers may feel that the prices for steam humidifiers are ULTIMATE.
At least Aprilaire offers the...
I was told that the higher blower speed is needed for efficiency for the heat mode of the heat pump.
My former furnace was 75,000 btu. The new furnace/air handler is 60,000 with a "3 ton blower"....
I agree with 1972torino. Also, some HVAC "showrooms" have models on display and you could see which models do or do not have fiberglass.
As a homeowner, I have followed the routine...
Thanks for the reply. Since the XL16i and XL19i heat pump have 2 stage (compressor)
heating, I see that as a real advantage in the colder climates especially
for new construction. ...
I have posed this question so many times.
Is it true that ALL Trane Heat Pumps have only 1 "stage" or compressor speed for the
HEAT mode (even XL16i and XL19i)?
If so, then you might not...
"Take them apart and hose them down".
If I have a crawlspace and asked a contractor to detach the parts at the
airhandler/furnace could this actually be done?
(If the heat was immediately...
I still haven't received the utility bill that
included the record hot weekend up through 7/16/06.
I'll try to remember to post some winter heat utilities too
(this was the main...
Just curious - did you go with AC or Heat Pump, R22 or R410a?
If you use the HVAC Calc, you will get better ideas.
My furnace is a 2 stage 60,000 btu input. The installers never installed the "jumper wire", so my unit only ran in low stage even when cold...
My contractor said I will probably save $200 per year in heating costs by getting a heat pump as opposed to regular AC. Maybe ask your contractor for some numbers.
The heat pump was added to my...
Consider using the HVAC calc software to double check the tonnage size for the AC. You might ask about XL16i. Many Pro's consider it Trane's best, also because it has R410a instead of R22 which is...
"walk away --
gonna cost as much as new unit"
You never know. The customers might be so distrustful of the original contractor,
they might pay Steve's company to have a new system put in.
A lot of HVAC Pro's are very against R22 refrigerant because it is being phased out.
The XL15i and XL19i have R22.
The XL16i is only offered with R410a. The XL14i is available with
If it has adaptive recovery like the Honeywell Vision Pro,
it will attempt to recover to whatever temp you normally
have programmed for Saturday at 10am.
Use the HVAC Calc program to calculate the heat load.
Ask contractor #1 to give you a quote for a 3 ton unit.
Contractor #3 sounds good too.
These two quality contractors will appreciate...
Sorry for the second post, but yes I agree, get a quote from a contractor that does American Standard also.
From your Trane dealer, ask about the price of an XL14i heat pump. Also ask about electric backup for the heat pump. I've heard that in the mid-Atlantic the gas rates are 1.30 per therm (insane).
Go commando and wait for winter
Jim Dulley may not have mentioned that a variable speed blower may make or break whether your system gets high enough seer to qualify for the 300 tax credit.
My discussion about the two compressors (on page 2 was incorrect). The pro's explain they run seperately.
But, look at my discussion...
Don't forget - HUGE outdoor units !!!!
My neighbor has an XR12, not horribly noisy but you'll be glad it's on the roof. Is your contractor sure the leak isn't in the existing lineset (hidden in the walls?).
I am not sure on the details of what my outdoor unit seer would be WITHOUT the variable speed.
However, you CAN sometimes get 15 seer with Trane XL14i / (American Standard Heritage 14)...
They sell American Standard. One of their employees is registered on HVAC Talk. Also, there are several Trane dealers in Thornton / Northglenn that might be willing to...
I agree with advent.
American Standard owns Trane. If you could hold out until the fall, the laws of supply and demand might work in your favor.
I like my Trane XL14i, but it cannot do a quick...
A smaller or larger furnace does not change your utility bills. My old furnace was 75000 input. The new one is 60,000. Both are 80 afue. Hardly any change in gas bills.
That's why I decided that...
American Standard (AS) owns Trane, so the mechanical insides are practically the same per the Pro's.
I found the XL14i single stage heat pump to be a good value. (I'm sure the AS equivalent is as...
Even though the reporter did most of the talking, it was obvious they made
good use of your knowledge - reminding people that licenses are issued to individuals,
a company might only have 1...
Sorry - I should have read more closely:
He sold me a 3 ton unit, saying it can be upsized slightly, and that the
2 ton would have been to small for needs. Also since I wanted...
Way to go. Those freeloaders ruin it for everyone. HVAC company gets cheated and has to raise prices for the paying customers.
You have a 41 degree difference. That's pretty good.
I suppose your condo association wouldn't allow a (supplemental) window air conditioner?
Because I used the HVAC Calc program...
Your post was very easy to read. There were not a lot of abbreviations etc... Just think about reading an auto service invoice for people that don't know the abbreviations: R&R Rt Rear...
Do a search on Jultzya (moderator) username and Mbtu.
He has some really good posts that show the operating efficiency of heat pumps. There are useful even in Canada. I have a gas...
Are the utility electric meters standard? In other words, there are the several dials that look like minature clocks (with one "hand"). Then there is the horizontally rotating part with a...
"An owner who is willing to "set it and forget it." Too many homeowners like to turn the AC off when they go to work and expect it to cool the house down by dinner time when they get home" Very...
I have a development I do. I hope I dont loose it. Been there 6-years, but people are getting very demanding.
I do a call last week: dual run cap ruptured and load shed. Meter no...
Sounds like nasty customers that buy the cheapest, don't do maintenance and the blame the rest of the world when it breaks.
Constantly being in the sunlight would be less efficient? (At least my outdoor unit is shaded).
For replacement units, the higher SEER equipment - won't that be more problem for bulkiness and...
10 seer and R22, some homeowners worry about these obsolete (or soon to be) items. But Carrier and Trane sell a lot and I wouldn't worry about parts on a discontinued model.
Those customers are probably pissed because they cannot read. Or too lazy.
Re: I've had customers say to me: "I'm paying $$$$$$ per hour to have you sit here and read a book....are you saying that you are not sure of what you are doing..."
If these loser customers...
I guess what I'm asking just for your thought is - If you have a vapor barrier added to the crawlspace, then you might save some of the expense of relocating HVAC equipment to the garage,...
regarding the comment of "Please ask your contractor to register here"
Yeah, but what if there are a lot of threads from him complaining about all the requirements of HVAC Talk.
.... and then,...
