First I have to agree with you in that you will have to keep looking and searching for a HVAC contractor who understands the importance of a Load calculation before proper equipment...
In our region I believe the entire ductwork and furnace would have been enclosed and fire rated. At minimum all duct joints should be sealed.
Is duct insulation wrap required...
