Any tips on how to remove this butyl backed tape. When the pipe is hot its a gooey mess. I suspect that it will be easier to remove first thing in the morning when the pipe is cold (maybe 35 degrees).

Good info here. I was aware of the limitations of measuring shiny material (thanks to a manual I found on the web) so I checked it with a coverite thermometer first. Once I knew it wasn't hot enough...

The highest temp I measured with an IR thermometer was about 180 degrees F.

One problem:

Incompatabilities: Acids, Metals such as aluminum, tin, lead and zinc in an alkaline environment

Who said anything about a leak? I'm asking IF there are any tapes like this that can be used in that type of application.

I have a CO meter and it is reading zero parts per million. If I had a leak wouldn't the CO be escaping too?
