Yeah, but flare nuts works great. I use them for installing TXV's and driers if they are being replaced. Just make sure they're good and tight.

I know that a lot of northern parts of the United States use fresh air intakes, but I don't think that it is a law. Could be wrong, though! I know that in Florida it is not required in residential.
