My brother just had a lennox signature collection G61MPV-60C-110-01 installed in a brand new house.
My understanding is that this is a multi-stage unit. The installer used a single stage stat. My question is how will the unit know to use only lo-fire or is it just using hi-fire all the time?
Hopefully you can understand what I am asking.

you can use a single stage stat
set the board to time on for second stage
time settings can be set up on the board
unit always starts in low fire and times on high fire usaly about eight to tem minutes of running time

Will that method hurt the efficiency of the unit?
Or not enough to notice?

You lose a lot of the comfort benefits of 2 stage if you let the timer do the deciding. The advantage of these furnaces is long run times on gentle low fire in very cold weather. Can't have that with a timer, all you'll end up with is constant cycling between low, high & off.
