I think that it's purpose is to equlize pressures in the off cycle so the compressor doesn't have to hard start.
I'm just guessing.
anybody know definitively what this is? It's killing me.
I've never seen anything like that, maybe it is supposed to be a bypass and they screwed up at the factory and connected it to the wrong place
It looks like it has a check valve in the fitting going into the vapor line.
I have no idea what that could be for...
OK, I hope I am saying this right (but I probably am not)
Remember this is a heat pump, which means in the heating mode, this is our TXV, then feeding the distributor. So it kind of acts like a desuperheating TXV and just redistributes the flow to keep pressures equalized.
Yes, you are correct. All of the ICP TXV's are bi-flow with a built in check.
It does appear that it may have been replaced. What model and serial is this thing ?
Hope this helps..........

Now I'm going to have to go buy one of these, just to cut it open.
What model is it?
Yeah, it's bugging the crap out of me too. Nothing from the group yet but guesses.

I don't supose you know the answer.

Could not see your pics on the post.
I would need a M# S#.
ICP had a 14 seer unit with an equalization tube for the heating cycle.
It did not work well. You need to contact ICP if you are a contractor for more info. The unit was produced for one year only.
